Pet Food Labels To Help Owners Control Their Pets Weight
Veternarians are hoping that the calories per serving listed on the pet food labels will help owners to control how much their pets eat and will help to keep them from becoming overweight.
“Pet owners do not always know how much to feed,” said John Branam, testifying on behalf of the American Veterinary Medical Association. The FDA held the hearing to help it devise pet food labeling standards.
According to veterinarians 54 million pets in the U.S. are obese, an “epidemic” that is growing. But the Pet Food Institute says calorie labels are unnecessary and won’t work.
